RUAPEHU | NEW ZEALAND ADVENTURE

Since moving to Auckland, one of the biggest things I was looking forward to was Skiing. I once went skiing when I was about 15 in Australia but spent most of the time sliding down the mountain with my skis in a pizza, hoping not to break anything. I went for my first proper time last year as an adult and fell in love with it. With the help of Ferg's family I can now curve and ski on the black runs.

Mt Ruapehu is the largest active volcano in New Zealand and you can also ski on it during the winter! Ruapehu has two ski fields, Turoa and Whakapapa (which sounds very funny when pronounced  correctly). Ferg and I had a few days off between jobs so we packed up the car and drove the 4 hours to the ski field. We stayed in Ohakune and skiied on Turoa. On the way home we were treated to a never ending sunset. It was so beautiful, such a lovely gradient that lasted for hours. It was nice to get out of Auckland, see a bit more of New Zealand and spend time doing something I love!
